Spade and Spacer sets, also known as Paddle Blinds, are mechanical isolation devices used in piping systems to block or allow flow during maintenance, shutdowns, or system modifications. Designed for easy manual switching, they offer a safe and visible method of positive line isolation, especially in high-pressure and hazardous service lines.
The Spade (Paddle Blind) is a solid metal disc used to stop flow, while the Spacer (Ring Spacer) is a ring with an open bore used to allow flow. Both are installed between two flanges, and a handle or tab on each piece extends outside the piping system for identification. Operators can easily identify the line status by checking whether the spade or spacer is in place.
Spade & Spacer sets are commonly used in refineries, chemical processing plants, offshore rigs, LNG terminals, and power plants, where operational safety and isolation verification are critical. Unlike valves, they offer zero leakage isolation when installed, making them ideal for long-term shutoff or inspection scenarios. click here for fittings
