ASTM A335 Grade P91 Pipes are seamless ferritic alloy steel pipes engineered for high-temperature, high-pressure service, particularly in critical applications where enhanced strength, creep resistance, and thermal stability are essential. These pipes are made from a modified 9% Chromium and 1% Molybdenum alloy with added Vanadium and Niobium, which drastically improves their creep rupture strength and oxidation resistance.
P91 is widely recognized for its use in power generation (especially supercritical and ultra-supercritical boilers), refineries, petrochemical plants, and heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs). With its ability to withstand continuous service at temperatures up to 650°C (1200°F), it outperforms conventional Cr-Mo grades such as P22 and P11.
These pipes are typically supplied in the normalized and tempered condition and must be welded and post-weld heat treated (PWHT) following ASME codes to maintain their integrity in service. P91 has strict metallurgical requirements and is typically used in systems where long-term thermal stability and low creep deformation are vital. click here for pipes
