CS Spectacle Blinds, also referred to as Spades and Spacers, are mechanical safety devices used in piping systems to isolate sections of a line or equipment during maintenance or inspection. A spectacle blind consists of a connected pair of metal discs – one solid (spade) and one open (spacer) – joined by a flat bridge or tie-bar that resembles a pair of spectacles. It allows operators to easily switch between “open” and “closed” line status by simply rotating the blind during plant shutdowns.
These blinds are commonly used in oil & gas, petrochemical, refineries, power plants, and process piping systems, where it is essential to provide a visible and verifiable means of isolation. Carbon steel is a cost-effective and durable material choice, especially for systems where corrosion resistance is not the primary concern.
At Middle East Piping, we offer Carbon Steel Spectacle Blinds in accordance with ASME B16.48 and MSS SP-44 standards, available in pressure ratings from Class 150 to 2500, and sizes from ½” to 24” and beyond. Spectacle blinds are precision-machined from forged plates or manufactured per customer drawings, with material grades such as ASTM A516 Gr. 70, ASTM A105, or A350 LF2 for low-temperature service.
