Weldolet is a type of forged branch outlet fitting designed to provide a smooth and reinforced transition from a header pipe to a branch pipe. It is one of the most widely used Olet fittings, ideal for creating 90° branch connections without welding tees or reducing tees. Manufactured typically from forged steel, Weldolets are available in a range of pressure classes and material grades to suit high-pressure and high-temperature service environments.
Weldolets are used when a branch needs to be taken from a larger pipe (called a run pipe) without disturbing the flow characteristics or structural integrity of the main pipeline. The fitting is butt-welded onto the run pipe and the branch pipe is then welded onto the Weldolet’s outlet end, ensuring minimal stress concentration and excellent reinforcement at the intersection point.
These fittings conform to MSS-SP 97 and are commonly used in industries such as oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and shipbuilding, where space, pressure integrity, and flow efficiency are critical. Compared to traditional branching methods like tees or stub-ins, Weldolets provide a cleaner, more reliable, and code-compliant solution for pipe branching, especially in ASME B31.3 and B31.1 design systems.
